2024 California PAL Youth Directors Council Board of Directors

Online Application Instructions

The application for the YDC Board of Directors will have several requirements that must be completed when applying online.  Incomplete applications will not be considered for the board.

The following points are the Requirements to Apply:

  • Must be a member of and participate in your local PAL/SAL/YAL program for at least 1 year.
  • Must be a member of your local YLC for a minimum of 6 months. (Other Youth Groups such as Mayor Youth Council, City Youth Commission or Explorers/Cadets also count as an organized leadership group but must have affiliation with your local PAL/SAL/YAL chapter in some form.)
  • Must have a minimum of a 2.80 GPA on your last semester report card or most current progress report when applying.
  • Must be a high school Freshman for the 2023-24 school year up through a Junior for the 2023-24 year.  (Seniors… I am sorry, there are a lot of great candidates out there but we need to re-establish the YDC board and you guys will be very busy this Spring prepping for graduation and then we lose you next Fall as you go off to college or whatever you end up doing.)

The length of term will be for one calendar year from the date of selection.  This is a competitive selection process and several factors including school grades, involvement with your local PAL YLC program and letters of reference are all considered. You also must let your PAL Director or YLC Advisor know you are applying and what may be required of them, including transportation to CALPAL events if you are selected for the CALPAL YDC Board.

For those candidates that are currently below a 2.8 GPA but are really close and working hard to improve your grades, please feel free to enter your application along with an explination on how or why your GPA fell so low and what you are doing to bring it back up.  School grades are a part of what makes a good YDC member but there are many other factors as well.

California PAL will be looking to select a minimum of 12 YDC Board Members for the next term and prior selection on the YDC Board is not a guarantee of reselection for the next term.

YDC Commitment

We need YDC Board Members that are willing to commit to the board for the entire 2024 calendar year.  You must be available for California PAL events and conferences throughout the year including our Life After High School conference (Summer 2024) and the CALPAL YMLA – Sacramento Experience event which will be held in either March or April 2024.  CALPAL also does other events like our Soccer Tournament and Boxing Tournament and some of you may be able to help us out at these events as well depending on location and dates.

Since this will be a BRAND NEW YDC Board, we are planning on doing a dedicated CALPAL YDC Training Retreat sometime during the Spring.  We will all get together somewhere and the YDC Board will train on how to do public speaking, run icebreakers and all of the other things that you will be doing as a CALPAL YDC Board Member.  More details will come out later on this.

If you have any questions about the YDC Board Application or the YDC Board in general, you may e-mail California PAL Director of Operations, Bryan Ferreira at bryan@calpal.org or you can either call to text him at (925) 567-6740.  He will be happy to answer any questions or concerns.  If you are having any trouble submitting your application, please contact Bryan as well.

Please remember that selection to the YDC Board will be a highly competitive process and we are looking for the “best-of-the-best” that are willing to be strong leaders and have the ability to learn and perform at our CALPAL events.  This is also a HUGE teamwork group and we need our YDC Board to be comfortable in working with others from PAL/SAL chapters throughout the state.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing your applications!
